En ese trabajo se retira la corteza seca que está pegada sobre la madera muerta cercana a la vena viva, dejando la madera muerta expuesta y la vena delimitada. Al cortar longitudinalmente con la parte recta más prominente, la parte curva va escupiendo la corteza muerta fuera del corte.

El hecho de que exista un modelo para la derecha y otro para la izquierda no significa que una de ellas sea para zurdos. La dirección de la curvatura se elige en función de la posición de la vena o la zona de trabajo. También se elige una u otra en función de que el corte lo realicemos de arriba hacia abajo o, al contrario.
